SMK Kelana Jaya students will have a safer compound once certain safety
features are installed by the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MPPJ) next
year.
According to Petaling Jaya Utara MP Chew Mei Fun, the council will
be installing street lamps and build a pavement along the outer perimeter
of the school.
In addition, drain embankments surrounding the school will be fortified and
covers will be placed on certain parts of the drain to prevent students
from falling in.
''It gets very dark in the evenings, and the street lamps would help to
keep the place well lit for the safety of the students," said Chew during a
site visit on Tuesday.
"The street lamps will be installed this year, but work on the drains and
pavements can only be done next year," she added. MPPJ development
and maintenance department engineer Mohd Aswadi Kong Mohd Azizi Kong
confirmed that the current budget was insufficient to accomm
odate drainage and pavement works for this year.
Meanwhile, some revamp will also be done within the school compound.
Through Chew's persuasion, Gumi Asli Elektrikal Sdn Bhd will sponsor
rewiring works for the school's library, which is now experiencing
inadequate electricity supply.
The location of the library was previously switched with some classrooms
as noise pollution from the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) was
disrupting lessons.
The cost of rewiring is estimated at RM4, OOO.
Chew said she would also be following up on the repaving of the school
basketball court. |
